  1. And another scrum. That’s got to be a worry for AUS.

  5. Aus proving heavy pack=/= effective pack. Just driven back 10m on their own maul.

  6. 14 turnovers and 9 handling errors against Aus. That’s not gonna help.

Forgot about this one, doesn’t look to be much like last week’s effort. Nice to see almost happy Kiwis singing along to Livin’ on a Prayer though.

Shame about the forward pass there.

So does this mean the ABs are good again, and the Aussies are shit again? So hard to keep up with these things.

It means the Aussies will be good enough to beat Wales again, but not necessarily much use for anything else. ABs still the favourites.

Reece got back into his stride very quickly there.

  13. J Barrett dinks a ball through on half-way. Reece rushes up and gets a toe on it, punting it down field. He beats the defenders and slides over to score.

Game gone free-form. Aussies not as good as the All Blacks and lose the ball in their own 22 and good play puts in Bridge in for try number 5.

Ben Smith is one of the best but he’s really going to struggle to be in the first-choice 23.

I forget myself. What it means is that Wales can’t make number one today, but I think I read that England still can?

I was playing with the numbers last night, CMW. According to the rankings calculator I used, either Wales or England could if they win by more than 15. Not sure if it’s right or matters that much.

I do wish we wouldn’t play England outside of proper tournaments though. Will no one think of the all-time record?

Strange thing about that game is Aussie were doing ok until the first try. CL missed two kicks – one pretty easy – and Aussie still did some good stuff. NZ pack really put it up the Aussies, though. Very impressive.

Interesting finish in the Canberra vs Melbourne NRL match earlier. Aussie commentator said “WHO’S YA MONEY ON NOW? hashtag gamble responsibly”

It’s political correctness gone mad, the nanny state etc.

Had been planning on watching the game but had the result spoiled. Probably not going to bother, too depressing to see the ABs back to (their) normal

  26. Is your depression at the ABs return to form not outweighed by the utter joy of seeing The Wallabies get nilled?
    Nah, me neither.

G’day CMW. I had wondered, during the hiatus (henceforth to be known as The Great Hiatus) how you were coping with real cricket. I’m no cricket fan but your vignettes always had/have an allure.

    Since I’ve been asked:

Been a messy season as the kids and the weather have conspired against me. Only one innings of note and it feels like the first game of the season every time I play. All our seam bowlers have been injured so I’ve been opening the bowling with a bit more seam up than usual mixed in with spinners all still off a few paces. Had the field up as a con job in the hope that the opposition openers give it more respect than it deserves. It’s been working OK but could not be described as good. Came back at the death the other week and as they’d already got too many I risked an over off my long run which has a jump and everything. Hadn’t bowled off it in a match since I was twelve years old. The opposing captain top edged a pull when one was on him quicker than either he or I expected and then I bowled their transvestite to end up with a double-wicket maiden so I might persevere with it tomorrow. It’s certainly still not quick though or even really medium pace – like a Real Cricket Steve Barwick (one for 80s/early 90s County Cricket fans there).

It’s all still been fun, but it would be nice if both me and the team were a bit better!

And Els – were you in a period of enforced non-golfing? I know Brookter was/is, but for some reason have a feeling you might have been too. Or have you been golfing away to your heart’s content? Or indeed its discontent if the game’s been treating you badly?
