White orcs and black orcs and green orcs and the daffodils

Heartbroken by Ireland’s tragic crash-out last week, I forgot about putting up a new post yesterday. So this is a rushed affair.

Scotch whisky is fantastic … just there are a few very good Irish ones. The rest are rubbish, obvs.

Ticht – that’s a demented definition of country, but if you say so, it’s a version of country I like!

Southern Rock, as was/is, is a subgenre of rock with a cross over into Americana, where Country is the larger part of the Venn diagram

Can you tell me where my country lies?

Thaum – if you like the more rocky side to country/blues, try Blackberry Smoke and/or The Cadillac Three. Both sort of update the Southern Rock sound with bits of country/bluegrass and so on.

My favourite song of all time can be changed at any given moment, for example I was in Sainsburys the other day and they had a box of LPs beside the second hand books that you can swap. There were a few Tony Joe White LPs there and since then I’ve been singing this in my head

There was a DNA reference to Scarlets on Saturday in the commentary, something about giving up is not in their DNA, and then Matt Scott, who trained as a lawyer so you’d think think accuracy of language was important to him, said something about DNA in the post match stuff

I advise you to take a tour of the Bushmills distillery one day.

A friend of mine took her old Dutch dad to Bushmills a good few years back. He’s a whisky nut of note and engaged them on all sorts of technical issues (made his own drambuie at home) and they were clearly impressed with the breadth and depth of his knowledge. When it came to the tasting, he stood and sipped, swirled etc and said, without any malice aforethought “very, very good. But you just don’t make whisky like the Scots do.” They left shortly thereafter.

  30. Magical walk through some superb music in the late night dinghy folks! Sent a few links to the missus who likes country more than I do. She’s a massive Chris Stapleton fan and the Dolly Parton Coat of Many Colours was her mum’s favourite song. Johnny Cash doing Personal Jesus is stunning. but covering Nick Cave’s Mercy Seat is another level. Loved Cash and Cave’s “I’m So Lonesome I Could Cry” and whilst listening to it, came across this as well, which I hadn’t heard before:

The central task of the police, according to classical Foucauldian analysis, has also been to thwart and foil the possibility of revolution, the possibility of transgressing the order of capital: “For the bourgeoisie the main danger against which it had to be protected, that which had to be avoided at all costs, was armed uprising, was the armed people, was workers taking to the streets in assault against the government.”
Paw Patrol: Mighty Pups, the first theatrical reiteration from the popular animated franchise, is the latest shadowy attempt to normalise state-sponsored thuggery.

“Harold and his uncle are not villains but Baudrillardian second-order simulacra, befitting a fake world run by corporations and kept stable by feeble politicians (personified by Adventure Bay’s tulip-obsessed mayor) and bootlickers like Paw Patrol.”

There’s also a bit about Ryder being a slave owner which made me giggle.

“There is a frequency that is sort of the God frequency and then there is a frequency that is just sort of off from that,” she said. “Our scale of modern music [is] off from the real resonance, it’s just a scale down. We don’t realize it, but all of our music is tainted in this way and sound has a powerful influence, a powerful effect on our bodies, on our minds. We’re 75 percent water, and so when something reverberates though you, it changes your DNA.”
