Anyway I miss Fd. And Suavo. If they were both still around I would have started a very silly conversation about New Zealanders’ sense of humour when someone mentioned OMC not appearing to enjoy themselves in the How Bizarre video the other day.

If book sales won’t make him famous looks like he’ll have to do the stadium tour route. Worked for Jordan Peterson and all it cost him was a prescription drug addiction.

You’re right, we shouldn’t mock a man for his troubles. But it does mean that when he makes himself stupidly wealthy preaching to people about how to take control of their lives when faced with adversity, but then gets addicted to drugs when faced with his own challenges, we can safely ignore his advice.

I’ve been reading a lot from the Financial Times recently – forgive me, OT.

Just opened it up and settled down for a read.

Big headline: “Meet the estate agents turning themselves into superstars”. Trying to work out which one is Avs.

There are two schools of thought on the wisdom of pushing for OH’s return / OG’s return.

On the one hand, the pussycat gave you endless detailed posts on how to make progress in Bloodborne.
On the other hand, the pussycat gave you endless detailed posts on how to make progress in Bloodborne.

I’m only putting this here – as long, long ago (on a blog far, faraway) I said I was thinking about hiring said device to clear some gorse and @Ticht said something to the effect “go ahead – just remember if it goes wrong it’s not going to just leave a bruise”

There is a headline in the Kipper, with quite a sub header

‘Joe Marler ends retirement speculation by re-signing with Harlequins

Paul Gustard heralds Marler as “arguably the very best scrummaging loosehead prop in the modern era”‘

Marler didn’t ask for the title, but I got to half a dozen before I stopped counting – taking “modern era” to mean the professional era

To paraphrase Jasper Carrott, I’m not even sure he’s the best scrummaging loosehead England have had in that time.

I’m not having a pop at Marler, I’m having a pop at Gustard

(for the record, and in no particular order, Tony Woodcock, Cian Healy, Jean-Baptiste Poux, Marcos Ayerza, Andrea Lo Cicero, Tendai Mtawarira, there are probably countless Georgians and other French and South Africans who would make the list.)

Andrew Sheridan destroyed an Aussie scrum like almost no one else has done

I told my wife of your advice and we laughed and then said “..err… let’s not… ”

Anyway, “not just going to leave a bruise” has stuck with us as the measure of how dangerous any course of action might be……

  33. Just watched the two Bok-Wales Tests out here in 2014. 1st Test in Durban, the Boks hammered Wales. The 2nd at Mbombela (Nelspruit) saw Wales rush out to a 17-0 lead, lose two to the bin before half time and turn with a 3 point lead and then seemingly put the match to bed before Liam Williams no-arm tackle on Cornal Hendricks saw Steve Walsh award the penalty try that won it for the Boks. Helluva match which Wales were desperately unlucky to lose.

  34. Walsh really was a egotistical tit though.

@Ticht – Corbisiero too so Marler can only really be in a battle for third for England.

@Deebee – North (I think) should have made the tackle on Hendricks, was never sure LW could really have managed a legal tackle after that that would have stopped the try.

We managed to get the two players binned effectively conceding the same try. Walsh was desperate to card the second one.

Traumatic game for me that 2nd test. Liam W’s massive cheating and then the hopeless drop goal attempts. A couple of years later it all came back when Scott Williams did a horrible knock-on right on our line but somehow we survived.

Cuthbert scored a wonder try when we were 30 down in the first test. And was a menace in the 2nd test.

CMW, There’ve been a few times over the years – Scotland v England in 2019 comes to mind as well – where you think that it’s worth letting the opposition score the try as the kick’ll be much more difficult.

The shoulder tackle in the corner is Welsh tradition mind:

  42. North should have got Hendricks, for sure. Watching the match now I remember how frustrated I was watching it live. The Boks just weren’t at the races and Wales punished them for it, other than two periods of a few minutes each late in each half. A great escape in the end.

  45. TomP, the second drop attempt in particular was silly. Wales were grinding forward a foot at a time and had gone through 15 or so phases already. Biggar was so far back he added another 10 yards or so to the kick.
