I was interested to see what sort of damage a Matt Scott and Manu Tuilagi midfield would do, hey ho.

In other news, Wee Greeg, or Mr Greig, to Shining Arcs in Japan – nice way to see out your career

Virus update USA. Pool at the local Y is open today on a prebook basis for lap swimming, temp testing on the way in. Worries about pools being incubators for germs outweighed by desperation for swim.

Not sure if anyone has posted this before. 25 mins dissecting the scrum in the world cup final. Ticht will love it

I’ve watched Squidge and Wibble on the final already – not sure I can take another half-hour of analysis (good though both were)

Having said that…. well, why not.

Jerry Hall is really not very healthy-looking there. No muscle tone. Wouldn’t survive a breakdown.

Then again, the woman married Murdoch. What do you expect?

  13. Think we established that the Boks only won because they didn’t play Scotland in the Final. Analysis is redundant.

    Good video, that.

Something I noticed during the film there, especially in the earlier scrums, was that Itoje was all over the place, he wasn’t supporting Cole much at all, it could have been that Cole was getting such a hiding that he swung his hips out under pressure, so Itoje had a huge chasm where there should have been a tight front row in front of him, or it could have been that they just got all the body heights and angles wrong, which would be very unusual for an England scrum.

  15. Only watched the first 10 minutes, but Cole seems to bear much of the blame – although the analyst also reckoned one of the scrums should have been reset rather than a penalty awarded (3rd one I think). I felt the second penalty was as much about Billy V offering very little and trying to get the ball out ASAP as anything else. Was it a planned move or a panic from the first scrum?

I found it fascinating – would have benefited from being edited down to 15-18 mins. Feel a bit for Dan Cole – he’s definitely the “guilty” party in the first 2 scrums and that probably sets the ref’s mind thereafter.

Deebee, I thought that scrum was quite an easy one to give because Marler changed his bind very obviously and right in front of the ref.

  18. Trisk, agreed it seemed to meander a bit and could’ve been tighter.

@Ticht – my knowledge of scrums is shouting at a bunch of fatties to push harder and make sure their prized asset has an easy run of it when the ball emerges. Born leader, I was.

A bit like England’s scrum, them.

Public holiday here yesterday so we had a weekend away in the Bohemian Forest, hard on the border with Germany. We popped into Germany for a couple of hours. Very pleasant little walk. The next day we went on a much longer walk that took in Cerny Jezerno and Certovo Jezero., Black Lake and Devil’s Lake.

There’s a story and a half about Black Lake: https://www.wired.com/story/uncovering-operation-neptun-the-cold-wars-most-daring-disinformation-campaign/

TomP – I was in Pretoria yesterday for my first face to face meeting in 106 days. It was 24 degrees and charming. Pretoria’s winter weather is lovely, if we could just get the locals to migrate somewhere else for hte duration, I might spend a bit more time there.

I’ve told my bosses not to expect me in the office again this year, fingers crossed. Am enjoying this working from home malarkey and so far it seems to be going well. I don’t set an alarm in the morning and I don’t have to sit on a tube train just to sit in front of the same laptop I use at home. Just need to get the kids back to school and everything will be rosey……

It does smack of an after-dinner-speech-circuit story. Although I doubt he gets many bookings. Viv probably did laugh at how amateurish the England cricket set up was in those days, mind. Most people did.

To think he spent the previous summer playing for Rishton in the Lancashire League and spent his time travelling to grounds like Haslingden and Accrington.
