Just found out that Sonia Darrin died last week. She was in one of my favourite bookstore-set scenes in a noir film. “And they ain’t Argentine, They’re Egyptian”.

Top clip TomP. Bogie is acting away while she is just there and stealing the scene from under his nose. Nice touch with the Kali broach too.

Not a critique nor snark BB but I haven’t listened to any of those songs from start to finish. One or two might be familiar because I’ve encountered them somewhere elsewhere out there, but that’s all.
I know that leaves me a few pages short of a binding, but maybe one day…

That’s OK Iksy. I know you’re not a great fan of guitar rock and they are probably the ultimate guitar rock band. They’re one of the first bands I really got into. Not many groups can lose a charismatic front man, get a replacement and release an album that went on to be one of the biggest sellers of all time in about 6 months. Seem to remember Sag was a bit of a fan too – he could understand all the technical stuff that went on to make their music sound so simple.

BB, I only got into AC/DC in the late 80s and then traced them backwards from there. I can say without any doubt that they are one of favourite rock bands. Even Mrs Deebee, whose roots are in country and country rock, gets down to some serious headbanging when I play it. They’re bloody brilliant! Gets any party going.

News coming out of Australia is that if the 4N doesn’t go ahead, Aus and New Zealand will play 5 Bledisloe Tests! Crazy.

Tera Mtembu leaves the (Durban) Sharks to join the growing list of players heading north, this time to the bright lights of, um, the New England Free Jacks. Not a move that will create huge ripples in rugby circles in the UK (or just about anywhere), I’m sure, but it’s another blow for the overall health and depth of SA rugby. Mtembu played a couple of games at Junior or age group Bok level and would have been an extremely long shot for senior honours (probably never)but he was also a very good, solid Super and Currie Cup player. At 29, he’s in his best playing years and also approaching that mentoring role for new players coming through. Good luck to him and hopefully he shines in the USA, but another drop of talent leaving the pond of SA rugby.

Only 1 ever 5-test series between countries before – though the SH teams played 5 tests in Europe and the Lions used to do 6 tests on Aus+NZ tours. And that was in 1933. Australia in South Africa. The first time they played each other and they met 5 times in 8 weeks.

One of the great names in SA rugby history is Bennie Osler. His story’s too long to go into here but is worth checking out.
Anyway, his last game for the Boks was the final test v Australia in 1933. He’d had a career lasting just under 10 years and played in 17 consecutive test matches. He said that last match – which the Australians won – was “undoubtedly the poorest Test match ever played in South Africa”/

He’s a good player is Tera. Best of luck to him in the States, whenever he gets to play there (and if it isn’t in the middle of a Civil War).

Who really wants to watch 3 arse whoopings and 2 dead rubbers? The rugby authorities seem to be going a little cray cray (sorry Beadle) right now.
Also, do we really need to finish this year’s 6ns? Can’t we draw a line under it. All these special tournaments seem a bit pointless to me.
Just say England and Sarries won Europe and be done with it.

14-man Force are up against the Rebels. Lovely hands down the backs to get over in the corner. Coversion good and it’s 17-13 heading into the final quarter.

From the kick-off, the Force knock on and 11 phases later the Rebels barge over. 17-20 and back to 15 players each. Neither side doing well at the restarts. Pretty scrappy fare all round. Penalty Force for not rolling away. 20-20 as Jono Lance levels it up. Restart goes over the deadball line and back to halfway for 15 more scrum resets.

Force with the penalty for taking the man out at the lineout. Jono ‘Bronski Beat’ Lance pulls it to the left. 4 minutes to go and then extra time!

Jeremy Thrush, otherwise known as Sporty Village Person, charges one down, then knocks one on and finally the Force gift the Rebels a penalty. Hodge comes up short and that’s full time!
Now for Super Time! Work will wait for 20 more minutes!

Force screw up the restart again and the Rebels keep possession to crash over for the winning score! Rebels up to 2nd on the log, but more importantly this entrenched your humble narrator’s lofty position atop the Ovally Balls log!

I still listen to AC/DC, BB, though not very often nowadays if I’m honest.
“Not many groups can lose a charismatic front man, get a replacement and release an album that went on to be one of the biggest sellers of all time in about 6 months.”
Dave Grohl did a pretty good job with the Foo Fighters first album, though I imagine it didn’t sell anything like Back in Black did.

That was a brand new band that he started up though, wasn’t it? He was the only one from Nirvana in it.
I sometimes think poor old Brian gets a rough ride from some AC/DC fans. Bon was a really tough act to follow, but Brian stepped in and did it in his own way. OK, some of the albums they did with him weren’t great, but he didn’t write the songs (and often didn’t write the lyrics either) but he still seems to get a lot of the blame for that.

BB I agree with you (again). There’s almost a snobbery amongst some AC/DC fans about Bon Scott, but Brian Johnson has been a helluva trooper and they’ve produced some bloody good music with him leading the charge.

Grohl took Nirvana’s touring guitarist, Pat Smear, to Foo Fighters with him – a bit of a stretch, I’ll admit, but I think the situations are in the same ballpark.

It’s not even Robert Ludlum-esque, there is nothing covert about politics at all now, now that you can just do whatever and brazen out the most obvious patronage and nepotism.
I’ve argued for it for other reasons, but for the good of the UK as a whole we need Scottish Independence* asap, it’s the only chance of a change of course for everyone.
*and Welsh and perhaps a good look at what is the best future for Norn Irn.

Ticht,
A friend of mine taught him at posh kids school in Mill Hill. Said that parents’ evenings were fun.
I told my missus about it and she asked, “The House of Lords is the unelected one, right?” On confirmation she said, “But you have to be a British citizen to get in?” I said I wasn’t sure as I know of Canadians and others who’ve been in it. She said it’s a funny way to run a country.
I was losing at this point so noted that the Czech prime minister is having a big fight because he’s stuffing the public broadcaster with his own people. Ha! Trump card.
She then found the BBC Sunak as Superman video.
I always remember what a Gabonese friend said to me, “We know our system’s corrupt but you and the Americans actually vote for it.”
