Preview: Autumn Nations Cup, Round Four

The briefest of all possible previews.

Georgia v Fiji

Fiji are a very good side, but have not played a test match due to their Covid problems. Georgia were much improved last week. Georgia by 5.

Ireland v Scotland

Both sides looking rather pedestrian at the moment. With the inexplicable void where Hamish McFuckface should be, as well as the return of Sexton and Ireland’s home advantage (and despite the dropping of McCloskey), Ireland by 10.

Wales v Italy

Wales by 25. You know why.

England v France

With France putting out a C side, there is not much doubt: England by 15. Although I suspect France will throw some surprises England’s way.

There was a really good article on the fishing situation i saw a while back. Showed how much bollix is talked about it in a brexit context, and how ‘control’ is Totally misused given the complexities involved also, more generally the small operators generally get shafted and big bucks are made by part uk / offshore owned supertrawlers that have have been sold rights. My impression was a few big operators were keen on brexit…

I’ll have to see if I can find it.

BB – Cooney was a bit slow to start after the Covid break, but has been well back on form in recent weeks.

I’d like Ulster to win but Kolbe’s the best.

@Flair: What OT said. There’s an old tweet of Barnier’s saying how the various positions you could take lead to different styles of agreement, showing that May’s red lines led to a Canada style deal. Now we’ve essentially said we want a Canada style deal, we are told we have to give up way more than Canada did. It is not a just position and it is not excused by any of the actions our dickheads have do far taken (which I don’t condone either).

But I’ll shut up about it – enjoy your rugby everyone!

Dupont in – but was there a knock on at the scrum?

Nope – Cooney trying to knock the ball out of the scrum just gave it to Dupont. Not the best move.

Cardiff losing too. May not be a great night in the Thaum household if these scores stay the same. But neither side out of it yet, although Ulster seem to have run out of steam a bit.

Most enjoyable half between Ulster and Toulouse. Rather impressed with the “un-Irish” approach bu Ulster and the sheer individual brilliance and power of Toulouse

At my parents’ there’s an old scrapbook that my grandmother put together when she was at school in Belfast in the 1930s. She was a hockey player but rugby fan and there are lots of clippings of her school’s side playing in the Ulster Schools Final at Ravenhill. The pictures are fab. Thousands in watching the games.

Recent finals have been at the Kingspan.

Is this CJ’s mate doing the interviews? He’s fucking shit. ‘How are you feeling?’ ‘What’s going through your mind when you”re doing something?’, ‘Will a win give you confidence?’

I think Ulster would have won that with a full house at Ravenhill, conjecture I know, but it was close enough for that huge support to have made the difference

Ticht, when I was in SA, Nick Mallett had this big spiel every week on the telly about how Kolbe should be turned into a scrum half. Props to Toulouse and Rassie for playing him where he’s absolutely devastating.

There’re a couple of lads playing at the Bulls at the moment who’ve done a similar thing to CK – going to 7z and then back to 15s. Arendse and Gans. Both are dynamite. I just wish Speckman had gone back to 15s a few years earlier. Another magician,

Also ticht, Newcastle made loads of changes apparently. They’d picked the same side for the 1st 3 league matches and wanted to give them a rest. Don’t think your boy’s crocked.
