Fingers Crossed

Mother would have wanted Six Nations to go ahead

One week to go. One week to go, and nothing’s been cancelled yet. Is that wise? Possibly not, but we can all agree that Six Nations is more important than life or death itself – unless personally affected.

Meanwhile, there are a couple of matches to keep us entertained until then.

Bulls 6-3 up after 25 mins in the Currie Cup final. Game was suspended for more than half an hour because of lightning around Tshwane. Hope they can get to the end of the game now.

Sharks score just before the naartjies. Superb dinish by Sbu Nkosi. Curwin Bosch missing a lot of kicks so 11-9 to the Durbanites.

13-9, apparently. I thought he’d missed the conversion.

  7. Sharks with a very important score just before the break. Missed most of it making ravioli. My time management sucks.

  8. Bosch with another excellent kick to take them 9-16 up at Loftus.

  9. Bulls get the overlap, but Stravino Jacobs can’t find a man 10m out, and the Bulls knock on. Big scrum! Sharks just hang on and clear but not to touch. Win the penalty with the imperious Am jackling it! 63m penalty attempt by Bosch…. was still rising as it went left of the upright.

  10. Fassi lucky not to get a yellow for an early tackle on the man in the air.

  11. Bulls getting it wide with quick hands, but the Sharks are up very aggressively to force the kick through and a defensive lineout. Probably the softest penalty in the history of rugby union awarded to the Bulls for a ‘shove’ chasing the ball. Bulls find touch and maul it up from lineout. Sharks turn it over and win the kicking battle.

  12. One for Ticht: Sharks TH makes the turnover and the LH plays scrumhalf! Sharks penalty just outside the Bulls 10. This for a 10 point lead…. straight down the middle! 9-19 with 25 to play.

  13. Notche drops a sitter from the restart. Bulls need to make the scrum inside the Sharks 22 count. Penalty! Sharks defence is supreme. They’re getting stuffed at the scrum and can’t do much at the lineouts, but they’re winning the breakdown hands down.

Phew. Bulls get a score back. Big Arno from Nylstroom.

  15. *Notshe! Finger trouble on me mobile. Bulls penalty and lineout 5m out. They batter away, and win another penalty close to the posts. Vermeulen goes for the tap and Arno Botha crashes over after a couple of phases. 16-19 with about 15 to go!

Don’t like this Marco Janse van Vuuren utility back experiment.

  17. Bulls on the charge! Win a Sharks lineout and force them back. Crap pass and then a knock on. Sloppy. Sharks going from side to side but get the penalty. Go for the corner. Advantage. Another lineout. Driving it up with an advantage. Bosch puts up the bomb. Wrong option.

  18. Lineout again. Give away a free kick! Bulls relieve themselves up to the 10m line. Sharks maul and pick and go and Bosch tries the drop. Miles off. Wrong option again for me.

  19. Bulls scrum in midfieldwith 4 minutes to go. It’s a mess, which will suit the Sharks. Lovely switchback by the Bulls and Jacobs makes yards! Bulls get a penalty inside the 22 and Steyn has a doddle to tie it up. Except it’s not Steyn, it’s Smith who smashes the penalty over and we’re all tied up in the final minute!

The garryowen was an ok choice as there were too many players from the Sharks in the ruck. That’s why he had to put up a monster so there’d be a decent competition rather than a kick pass.

Drop goal is ok. If you miss, you keep the Bulls deep in their half and/or you get the ball back from the 22, It was a shit effort, mind

  22. Bulls penalty but not out! WHAT??? WOW! Bulls maul up a very dodgy penalty and get another. This for the match, inside 40m. Slightly wide but you’d expect it to be easy enough. He’s hooked it! Extra time.

It would be a fantastic achievement to win a SuperRubgy.Currie Cup double. Only one side has ever done that before I think.

  25. Sharks with a penalty attempt from halfway. Pulled wide. Bosch has missed a few today. But so have the Bulls.

  26. Penalty Bulls! Similar distance as the other end. Smith lines it up, and… wide!

  27. ***Ignores TomP’s snipe, which better than anything the Bulls have managed.***

Very scrappy with turnovers, knock ons and feeble handbags all to show for a couple of minutes of huff and puff. Du Twitter down after jackling some headgear and then ploughing head first into the turf.

  28. HT. Chris Smith’s passing had been as bad as his kicking and he finishes the half with a lame crossfield kick.

    Like

  29. Bulls scrum, but they’ve been on the back foot with the replacement front rows. Big chance for the Sharks. Smith clears. Bulls just need to keep the Sharks scoreless for 6 minutes. Skew throw by the Sharks and the Bulls have another scrum in midfield.

What happened with that injury I read about in the first half of ET, Deebee? Who was it?

  31. Advantage Bulls and they’re running down the clock. Smart play. And then go wide! Jacobs makes metres before Papier snipes (yes) down the blindside, they recycle and Botha crashes over again! 24-19 final score! Well played Bulls!

On about 70 minutes or so Sharks wanted to kill the game with a driving line-out and try like they did to Province last week. But the Bulls held them out. That was the game.

Got the Munster match on … not sure why, as I expect it to be a massacre.

The Big Match is on later. If Scarlets can not only beat Leinster, but also prevent them getting a BP, Ulster win the Pro14!

  43. TomP, that lineout drive and a couple of Bosch kicks that seemed to be from a lack of ideas more than anything. Keeping it in hand would’ve been better. But overall, the better side on the day won, small margins in that statement reflected in the result. Luons will obviously thrash them both next season, win the Pro Infinity and Super Rugby with their B team and probably the 6 Nations as an invitation side after Macron withdraws France is a vaccine fit of pique. Really looking forward to it!

Not sure Munster have actually had any possession at all during the second half, but they’ve scored a penalty. Treviso have spent a fair amount of time in Munster’s 22, but have been unlucky not to score again.
