Round Three Redux? Round Five-and-three-quarters? In any case, Welsh fans will be biting their nails, or any other available substance, and wondering if France can win with a bonus point and 21 points to deprive them of the title.
Scotland will no doubt have plenty to say about this, as a win with a six-point points advantage will put them second on the table (giving them their best finish in the Six Nations), supposing France don’t score a LBP.

Sadly, both teams can finish above Ireland. Maybe we should just cancel this match.
And maybe we should support France to wind up the OH.

Bravo les Ecossais, well played.
I hope Brice won’t pay the price for his panache. He was going for an unnecessary BP, as it was so easy to kick into touch. I don’t mind, and the Scots fully deserve their win. I think France overplayed their hand, a bit too obsessed with the 21 points and BP. Not forgetting the wonderful scottish defence.

Biggest winning margin in the 6 matches between Wales, France, Ireland and Scotland was 5 points. The Top 4 all really close to each other, which is great.

Beadle – that was very funny. His house looks nearly as well-decorated as this one (ie the mister’s), which hasn’t been touched since it was built in about 1960-something, as far as I can tell.

Article on Aberavon Green Stars is interesting – esp the bit where they were thinking of joining the IRFU…..
Some time back I found myself on the website of St Peters RFC in Cardiff…. (the Rocks as they are/were known) – which even to this day has loads of officers with Irish surnames….

As a footnote, as there were only 9 minutes left to play anyway, the RC or YC for Finn will only penalize Racing for their next games. Seems a bit unfair. I’ve always been in favour of sanctions related to the club- or country- you’re playing for. It should’ve no bearing on other competitions.
Anyway, thanks boys, all of you ( including Farrell and Ashton) for the great diversion the 6N have been.

Trisk, from the outset it was obvious France were looking for the 4 try and 21 point margin, that set the tone.
I wish all games were played with that intention

Apparently the last time we won in BOTH London and Paris in the same championship was 1926!

Also think that if France had only to win (never mind any points difference) they prolly would have won quite comfortably. Funny thing, pressure…

Ticht, I think that if France hadn’t played for the 21 points and the BP, they’d’ve won ( just think of Dulin not kicking in touch at the end). They’d’ve kicked for territory before, although Dupont had a poor tactical game and Ntamack is quite inferior to Jalibert in that respect.
So am not sure that’s the way to play all games.
I agree with you though that both teams willing to take risks make better games.

I enjoyed the game, I thought Fickou was very good. Did he win player of the match?

One score game as expected. There we are then.

I enjoyed the game too. Fickou was MOTM, I think. I don’t pay much attention to these things. Hamish would’ve been mine , if I had to give it. What a great nuisance for such a – comparatively- small flanker.
Half the French team didn’t turn up: the backs in particular, Dupont, Ntamack, Vaka, Vincent, Dulin all had a poor game, and so had Leroux and Jelonch.

They did the same v England, which I sort of understand, but Scotland’s defence is quite sharp and it was pissing down with rain. Not that smart. However, it came off a couple of times and is thrilling to watch.

I’d have gone for Ritchie as man of the match. Funnily enough I thought it was Watson’s least effective game of the tournament though I suspect France may have devoted more defenders to stopping him than they would have anyone else. Also thought Haining did quite well, don’t know much about him.

I bet you didn’t lose at home to Wales and Ireland that year. It’s a guess, but I suspect this might be a first.

If I had to give a player of the match it would have been for Jamie Ritchie, he tackles, he carries, he links, he spoils, he jackals, he does it all.
Scotland’s best player

Ritchie was very good. Watson’s so good at resisting the tackle that the hit he took off Chat under the French posts when he got knocked back 10 metres or so was rather a shock.

I liked Kebble’s carrying when he came on.

CMW, Haining had a great first season at Edinburgh, then he struggled to recreate it, but he seems to be playing better for Scotland than he has done for us.
He wouldn’t really be near an Edinburgh starting backrow, Bill Mata would start at 8, he might get a seat on the bench, but I’d have Crosbie or Kunavula before him for the pine, or Bradbury if he gets his form back

I liked it that Scotland immediately won a scrum penalty after I’d explained at length to The Middle One that Sutherland having to go off was a big problem for Scotland.

Watson has a great technique of turning and pushing the tackler off, using the momentum of the tackler against himself, like a judo player would, but Chat had a firm hold of Watson and wouldn’t be turned, he did really well to stay straight and drive Watson back.

The Middle One was very pleased with tonight’s game. “I am very pleased with Scotland, they are my third best team after England and Wales”. She’s not really very good at being an England supporter, there is still hope.

Well played Scotland and congrats to Wales. It was, as Trisk said, a crazy game.
Lions back row of Curry, Watson and Faletau would be most pleasing. With Tips and Beirne onna bench.

Beirne, Tips, Faletau will win more lineouts. And possibly more turnovers. And have an extra back.
Watson’s been that good that on 6N performances I’d go Beirne, Watson, Faletau though.

Anyone notice Ntamack wipe both sides of the ball on the wet centre line immediately before a restart in the first half? Scotland ( Haining ?) spilled an easy take from the kick off seconds later, like he was trying to juggle a bar of wet soap. Right in front of Barnes too. Part of me was quite impressed with the craftiness of it, part of me shocked at the seemingly innocent young lad being such a cocky, cheating bastard. Imagine the howls of anguish if it had been Farrell.
