Three Frogs and a Tigger

It’s nice to see the boys smiling as they play

Three years ago, we were in Bilbao for the Challenge Cup final. What a difference a pandemic makes. Also, the sun was shining, at least in Spain.

Regarding the Little Cup, Flair99 says: “To find Montpellier there is quite stunning, they’re fighting to avoid relegation, and they’re certainly not pleasant to watch. How about Leicester?”

Same, Flair, same.

La Rochelle v Toulouse will undoubtedly be a more interesting match. I’m calling it for La Rochelle, because I would like them to win.

Oh, and there was a Detroit band called Was (Not Was) – led by Don Was, and I think a brother – who were very very good. Killer version of Papa Was a Rollling Stone.

Ticht – I wouldn’t say the first 3 Queen albums are particularly mainstream, and even their mainstream albums have quirky songs on them. And then they did Hot Space, which was probably the low point.

Thaum, check this old Ozzie tv stuff out, and intensify it to having the sound system ruffle your cothing with the bass pressure waves

  8. Rammstein had the most impressive show, of all the gigs I’ve been to. I saw them at the Manchester Apollo, back when I was in uni. A much smaller venue than MSG, so they weren’t quite as expansive with the effects. Still got a little toasty near the front.

Second best live band I’ve seen was Rage Against The Machine at Glasgow Barrowlands.

Refit, that was a thing, wasn’t it?

Some eedjit called out Tom Morello online, saying rock stars should keep quiet on politics as they know nothing, Morello pointed out he has a degree in Political Science from Harvard

For posterity, the conversion bounced off the left post, then the right, then went back onto the pitch.

Iks – I think Bohemian Rhapsody is similar to Stairway to Heaven in that they were both quite ground-breaking songs at the time of release, but got played to fucking death. More so with Stairway, which I can’t listen to any more (plus its lyrics are quite silly).

As per the Plant article I linked earlier, despite being a generally very collegiate bloke, if you mention Stairway to him, he says fuck off and scarpers.

A friend of mine is a big Rammstein fan, I’ve never listened as yet.

She wears all the gear, T-shirts etc, but I don’t want to not like them because I like her, so I prefer to not listen

Thaum, I claim to be ground breaking because I played a Les Dawson version of Stairway to Heaven in guitar shops at every opportunity.

Mostly the staff got it, the best times were when they didn’t.

An Aussie friend of mine flies over to Europe every time Rammstein do a tour, sees them in concert wherever and then has a trip to another country before going to Prague for 4 or 5 days to drink a few hundred Pilsners. I listened to them for the first time thanks to him. Was fun, not my cup of cha but fun.

Favourite live band is obviously Marillion, ‘cos I’ve seen them about 20 times. Don’t think that will surprise anyone. Best gig, and I think I’ve said this before, was Springsteen at Hampden. He came on at 7.30, finished at 11.00 – no break. I was in the stands directly across from the stage, second row so I could see about the pitch crowd. Even more amazing was the fact that the sun was splitting the sky that evening, stunning weather. Everything just came together for a brilliant gig.

Well, I think I’d enjoy the over the topness of that, BB, it really does sound like great fun.

My friend does say that it’s all about that, rather than taking it all seriously.

I just liked metal when I was 15, Motorhead being the main band for me, anything that seems to be a soft centre or family friendly or send up version of it is of no interest to me, tbh.

Queen songs are best performed by a member of Spandau Ballet backed by thousands of schoolchildren. Other than Bohemian Rhapsody which is better performed by The Muppets or failing that a brass band.

They seem likeable enough and I’m grateful to them to varying degrees for all of the above.

Like a lot of bands, they take the music seriously, but not themselves. Think sometimes various parts of the music press can’t see the distinction.

You know rugby is shit ( if you were in doubt) when on a rugby blog people casually argue about 30 years old pop music during a EC final.
I still wish both teams could’ve lost. To think that Montpellier get a big cup berth next year – possibly at the expense of a more exciting celtic or italian team- is a bit sad.
