  1. Think France have been aided by a couple of dodgy passes too.

  2. Good passage of play by France gets them a penalty in front of the sticks. 6-16 they lead with six minutes to half time.

Comedy kick off reception from France. They’re 16-6 up now but Aussies with a 5-metre lineout.

Another penalty for Australia, 5 out. Card might be coming.

Excellent by the Tonga Thorn. He takes over at half back and puts out a cracking pass to Jake Gordon.

  6. Comical France cough the penalty from the restart. Nobody wanted the ball and they get pinged for offside. Aus opt not to kick and swarm up to the line, but can’t get over. Another penalty though and kicked to the corner again. Maul. Short. Wide. Reset. Finally a wide pass to the wing after 8 phases and Jake Gordon is over! The prop playing 9 passed beautifully to the 9 playing 11!

    who scores.

Two minor things: the Aussie water guy is filming the Wallaby squad in game in their huddle. Probably for exclusive content.

The French lads’ jerseys are losing their numbers.

    13-16 at the half.

  8. What TomP said – my feed is slow. Ireland 67/1 after 15 overs against SA. Balbirnie has 37 and enjoys batting against us. Think this is his lowest score (so far) in three knocks against the Proteas.

OT, I can imagine those pricks at Oldham having mixed emotions about this classic. ‘Bobby Ball! Yes! Tommy Cannon! Yes! I love this! Vince Hilaire! NOOOOO!’

  10. 16-16 early in the second half. France have done a lot of defending since they scored their try.

France’s turn to come up short after a long attack in the 22. Penalty for them 5 out.

They tap and go and then drop the ball over the line but another penalty coming.

They’re already 19-16 up. Australia get a warning. France kick the penalty.

  14. France now 16-19 up and with an advantage. They get over the line but drop the ball. Still advantage, and they’ll take the 3 points this time. 16-22. About 25 minutes to go.

Sensational play by Cameron Woki. Steals a line out 10 out from his own line and then blasts down the sideline for 30 metres. France carry on with a good attack and get another penalty close in. Kick it and it’s 25-16.

France are doing a great job but Australia are really poor. Can’t get past the Edwards defence, can’t chase kicks.

And inside pass opens the door. Banks slices them open. Kellaway catches a rebound off a French defender and Super Hooper is in great support to give the Wallabies a lifeline.

Just got an email in my inbox (as hon sec) on Global Law Trials to start from 1st Aug.

50-22 to be trialled, plus goal line dropout as seen in Rainbow Cup (no “Captain’s challenge” you’ll be glad to hear)

Plus changes to latching / pre-bind. Only one player can latch (if I read the law changes right) and must stay behind carrier and on feet. Plus a “Jack Willis law” to protect jackals – no falling on top, or twisting upper body.

Not clarified if this applies to all grades – adult and youth

Good result for France in Australia. Thought they’d blow it again in the last minutes. Should be an interesting third game on Saturday. But with which players? Three games in 10 days is absurd.
Tomp, I dont understand what you mean by dodgy penalty at the end. When your scrum is marmalized on your own feed, what do you expect?
Another good game was U20 Ir-Fr in Cardiff. Those boys must be quite happy to go home now after those long weeks (2
months?) quarantined in the same place, as all games took place in Cardiff.
Two things to note about the U20 6N. Italy have considerably improved. And England are scaringly good. A GS with 5 BP wins! Bravo. As a footnote France lead 19/3 at HT vs England. And lost something like 35/25. Wow!

  39. Looking forward to tonight’s game should be interesting.

Amazed AWJ is back up and running.

Can see what the Wallabies are trying to do but trying to wang it wide at every opportunity is a bit of a gift to a rush defence. Reminds me of when toonie was doing his ‘fastest rugby in the world’ nonsense with Scotland, lots of movement without tying in the defence. Australia made a lot of metres through the middle, somewhat less out wide on the whole. Korobeite is some player though.

Pleased for France pulling it out of the bag at the end, thought they’d arsed it again. Considering it’s a second string team there are some really promising players in there. Woki is quite a talent and like the look of Danty.

The scrum penalty was fine.It was the one after that, Macalou’s arm on the ground while getting the turnover, flair. I haven’t watched it since but presumably he got hands on the ball and only needed to balance because the Aussie was holding on but on first look it seemed dodgy.

That was the 6th French test in a row that’s been settled by 4 points or fewer and the fifth in row in which the winning score has come in the last five minutes of play. Nerve-wracking.

He’ll probably end up steal the tour-winning lineout or something.

Considering who is not playing, that was a very good result for France and provides them with great depth for the future, players with experience of winning abroad are solid gold.

The tour schedule is bizarre, though.

There is a story about a father and son, the guy is maybe in his 30s and the son looks about ten or so. They cleaned graffiti off a memorial in a park just outside Motherwell, the memorial was a tribute to volunteers who joined the International Brigade fighting Fascism in Spain.

Somehow Paris St Germain came to see to pics of their work and got in touch, they sent signed Neymar shirts to the wee boy.

All well and good, but when I was reading the father’s tweet about it all I cracked up at how he describes himself in his bio – “a good cunt, proud dad, Celtic daft”
    :-D
