We Can All Get Excited Now

These are a few of my favourite things

… because the Pro-Woo United Rugby Championship starts tonight! As per fucking usual, Ulster and Cardiff are scheduled to kick off at the same time, forcing a dual Premier Sports purchase. Bastards.

There is a plethora of other matches as well, so without further ado, let’s have a look at the fixtures.

Glasgow spill the ball practically on the try-line, Ulster nab it and make clearance, but not a huge one….

After another onslaught, Ulster again manage to win the ball. This is proper rugby.

That was squeaky-bum stuff. Darge rightly gets MotM, even from Stevie. Don’t know how we hung on there. 35-29.

Well done Ulster, Glasgow have a lot to build on there, Belfast is never an easy trip

Meanwhile, it’s 33-16 in Cardiff, less than a minute to go, and Connacht have a yellow.

Celebrations all around (apart from me secretly wanting Connacht to win).

Ticht/Chimpie – home advantage. We’d have lost by miles if it were away.

33-21 final score in Cardiff, with Connacht missing a pen as the last act.

Point of order raised on the Weedge forum, Ulster deliberately threw the ball dead at the end, which you can’t do.

Or not, someone else said the 9 dropped it on to his foot and kicked it dead, which is ok

    Phew, this isn’t easy

I didn’t notice what actually ended the match; was just glad it was over. Cos the Weedgies were going to win if it went on for a few seconds longer.

Seriously, that game and result (although I’ve only followed it here and online) gives me a bit of hope for this season. We’ve gone to Ulster, who will be up there this season, and given them a helluva game by all accounts. Although maybe not by Mark Robson’s account. There seems to be a bit of belief around Glasgow fans that some of the young ‘uns coming through could develop like Finn and Hoggy did. If so that would be great for us and Scotland.

    No pressure though.

BB, Glasgow should have won it, they were pressing at the Ulster line for the last ten minutes and they just kept mucking it up.
That composure should come, I thought Ulster looked good but perhaps a bit more fragile than we’ve come to expect of the likes of Munster and Leinster, it’s all early days of course.

Cooney getting injured didn’t exactly help the norngibbons’ cause

Was impressed with Doak’s goal-kicking. It’s always good to have a goal-kicker. Made the difference in this match.

I don’t really fancy our chances on the return match.

If the Boks get past the Haka without conceding, it’ll be a moral victory. ✌

  25. 7-0 with the extras. George Bridge drops a high one and Sbu Nkosi scores! Pollard duffs a relatively easy conversion.

    Like

  26. Boks not making first up tackles around the fringes. A couple ofcearly penalties against the Kiwis gives Pollard a shot for the lead. And he converts! 7-8 to the Boks! Blow the final whistle!

  27. Boks get another breakdown penalty and Pollard knocks it over! 7-11.

    That Kolisi’s not bad eh?

    Like

  30. Kiwis with a couple of penalties one to the line, but Kolisi with a peach of a tackle gets us out of trouble. Jordan now can’t hang on and it’s a scrum to the Boks.

  31. Townsville looks like a nice place. Shit name, mind.

    Like

  32. Moody pinged for knee on the ground. Both Kiwi props infringing actually. Boks with a lineout just outside the 🥝 22. Big Brodie steals and the Kiwis try to run it but get nowhere.

Kiwis burst through midfield and only a desperate turnover win by de Allende saves the Boks. Too easy through the middle.

  33. Had a steak and a beer in townsville. Literally all I can remember about the place. They were ok

    Like

  34. Moody pinged again at the resulting scrum. Kiwis get a linout penalty. Down to the Bok 22. Kwagga steals it on the floor and the Boks clear. Kiwis can’t handle the high ball again and it’s a Bok lineout. Pollard kicks too long. What a waste. Kiwi scrum.

    Like

  35. Kiwis break easily again and Boks pinged for offside. Scramble defence just about holding so far. J Barrett with the 3 points. 10-11.

    Like

  36. Pollard’s restart straight into touch. He’s having another bad day with the boot. Faf offside and the Kiwis opt for the lineout rather than posts. Etzebeth spoils it but knocks on. Kiwi scrum, which has looked creaky. If Moody keeps getting pinged we’ll have uncontested scrums again.

Nkosi binned for a deliberate knock down. Kiwis take the 3. Weird. 13-11.

  43. Dumb penalty conceded by the Biks early on here, giving NZ possession in the 22. They go for a lineout. De Jager steals! But turned over! And the Kiwis spill it again! De Jager then pinged for coming through the lineout early. Maul driven into touch by the Boks. Marx first throw. Is good. Faf clears, Nkosi back on.

  44. De Jager wins another against the throw! Boks get an offside penalty and now onto the Kiwi 22. Fuck it! Kwagga high tackle with the Boks under the posts.

  48. Hello all, thought I’d poke my head in and say hi after a busy few months with work kept me away from the notablog.
Got to the ulster Glasgow match last night as a friend had a spare ticket. Thought we were lucky with the win in the end as Glasgow looked very good and ready to pounce on any mistakes.

    Hope everyone is keeping well
