  1. Flair, based on the bunker decisions, maybe the bloke who told me yesterday that France is a tennis nation and not a rugby one had a point!

I’m tiptoeing away from thr Whisky Wars, having done my job of sewing Celtic discord.

There are some really good Irish whiskies, there are hunners of really good Scottish whiskies.

I have had terrific ones from Sweden, New Zealand and of course Japan.

On the rugby we are some way off the level of Ireland, it will take a massive step up in quality if we are to challenge Ireland in that last pool game

Triple distilled? Is that because they don’t get it right the first two times?

I heard a story that doing prohibition Laphroaig was allowed to be imported into the US as medicine because the officials thought it tasted so foul that it could not be a drink.

It is one of the more heavily peated/oily/smokey/seaweedy/medicinal whiskies, even for an Islay, but I like it

Seriously, Auchentoshan American Oak is triple distilled and is lovely. Have an (almost empty) bottle of it sitting on my sideboard right now.

  14. Wales scrum got battered there. Wales really need to get the ball and hold onto it for a while.

Hmmm. That Australia have turned up. Wales need to be on their toes here.

That had to be one of the worst lineouts I’ve ever seen, and I’m a Scotland fan….

Unlucky for Australia there – from what Barnes said, if they’d picked the ball up it would have been OK, but they couldn’t dive on it.

I think. Probably wrong. Seemed harsh to me.

  20. Jeez. Wales needed to recycle that.

  23. Frenetic stuff! Think the score flatters Wales ever so slightly, but they could also have gone in further ahead off that last attack with a bit more finesse.

Well, the Aussies are going to have to give it a real lash now, or they are going home. Canny Wales could make hay.

Deebee – not sure, but that could be a big loss to Wales. However, it doesn’t seem to be affecting this match.

I don’t like Gatland, but the difference between Wales being coached by him and not being coached by him is immense.

Great game played by Wales. Pack were great , look really well drilled. Feel a little sorry for the Aussies, but only a little. Absolutely delighted for Eddie Jones. Welsh granny would have been proud of that performance.

Yeah Ticht, sorry about the crowing. Sort of, a teeny little bit. Presumeably it was Aussies booing at the stadium tho.

I didn’t see the Wales game because it’s curry night with Mrs Dab (gotta have a system). But didn’t I tell you all Wales were a different prospect under Gatland??

Taking of whisky, I ran out yesterday – only thing left was some appalling Tasmanian nonsense. So today I got the Ben Bannock Speyside whisky from Lidl. Worth every penny of the £18 it cost me. But not a penny more.

I know Australia were poor, but 40 points, I mean really. Desperately wanted that last try to get to that after all the beatings we’ve taken from them over the years. Pretty amazed to be honest.

And fair play to Gareth Anscombe. He was not on it at all against Portugal, but I guess just needed to get that out of his system. Probably also have to accept that Gareth Davies is a bit better than I’ve sometimes been prepared to admit.

Morgan and Faletau stood out, lineout was exceptional, defence was really good and we scored a couple of nice tries even if I was convinced the second one was offside and didn’t dare celebrate it until he’d kicked the conversion. It’s a limited gameplan, but it’s working pretty well for now and given that even getting out of the group looked like borderline overachievement before the tournament we’ve got to be happy.

I watched our game again this morning

Someone is going to have to explain the Ritchie collision to me. The tackler goes from low to high and hits Ritchie in the face with his shoulder. I honestly don’t know what constitutes a red card now, it was far worse than Tom Curry’s and worse than the hit on Finn at the end of the game that was upgraded to red.

Tonga were looking to injure players all game, I counted five late, high or off the ball hits in the first half, three of which were penalised. The second half had exactly the same count.
The one late on on Kinghorn looked as bad as the Ritchie one but it wasn’t even checked, the off the ball hit on Steyn was only checked and penalised because the producer showed it on the screens at the stadium and on the tv replays.
