Sadly, I think tonight will see the end of Scottish representation in the Champions Cup. Even Predict-A-Bear’s a bit gloomy over this one.

  2. Thanks, Thauma, as always!

Quick question – Kitshoff is back in Cape Town next season, and some down here are saying it’s because Ulster are in financial trouble? Surely not? Sure as hell hope not!

    Although we won’t get nilled…

But, we’re Scottish, so of course we bollox up the restart. Although was the Glasgow player taken in the air, or were they both going for the ball? Glasgow player was far higher than Quins player.

Deebee – Ulster are in turmoil, MacFarland sacked etc., but I haven’t heard of financial difficulties, although that could well be because I haven’t been paying attention.

Frankly, Kitshoff has been a huge disappointment, and I personally would rather spend the money elsewhere. Our scrum performed a lot better last year, and he also gives away a lot of penalties. Occasionally he wins something at the breakdown.

BB – 7-nil up so far!

The mister says he’s seen something on the BBC website about financial difficulties at Ulster, but I can’t find it. One article does mention questions around sponsorship, but I’d think that was down to not wanting to renew with Kingspan due to Grenfell and other ethical issues.

Have also seen that the squad’s been trimmed down ‘massively’, though, so probably there is something going on that hopefully the new CEO can fix!

Glasgow getting reffed off the pitch here. Not helping ourselves, mind but getting nothing here.

  16. Thauma, the Spicy Plum hasn’t been great at Ulster – not sure why. He’s a Cape Town boy through and through, so probably best for everyone. Think the Mister is goading you with FAKE NEWS.

  22. Marler binned for a high shot, one of those purely rugby things that he’s a bit unlucky with, and Glasgow have a man advantage. Seems to have spurred Quins on, if anything.

  25. Great defence by Quins! 24cor so phases, although Glasgow flinging it into the ether every five phases didn’t help. Still very much in the balance approaching the last 10.

  26. Well! Weedge with the penalty to the corner. Maul from the lineout and another penalty. Glasgow batter away, but then Quins get the turnover penalty! Marler back on.

Bugger. That’s it now. Hadn’t realised that Quins hadn’t won a knockout game before.

  29. Weege concede a scrum sloppily and then the penalty. To the corner, another penalty for sacking the maul. Suddenly, Glasgow looking ropey and Quins maul it over! 26-24 with the kick to come and into the last 4 minutes!

never in doubt (not). Ended very much as it began with Glasgow showing some impressive handling. Cracking game that was very enjoyable if the usual squeaky bum time as a Quins fan. Well played Glasgow but your scrum was destroyed at the end.

Had forgotten that Danny Wilson is head coach at Quins now. He was Glasgow’s coach for a couple of years. Left after a Leinster trouncing and we got Franco. Despite the result tonight, I’m glad we did. This squad isn’t anywhere near the one we had in 2014 when we won the ProWhateveritwasatthetime, but he’s done a good job rebuilding us.

Just looking at the squad – Zander, Scott Cummings and Ali Price were in their dayboo season, Cooface was there too.

    Damn good team that.

Lyon should probably adopt the nickname ‘the China Shops’, because the Bulls are rampaging. 28-7 at HT, and that 7 was a cheaty wee thing.

  38. Bulls with the bonus point after 35 minutes against Lyon. 28-7 at half time. Bulls have bullied them pretty badly and could have been out of sight with a little more judicious use of the ball. That said, good to see them giving it air and going for the offload.

Clermont 15-3 up against the Cheetahs at the break – Ruan Pienaar’s boys need to do something serious to give him a last match in Belfast before he retires.

  40. A chance for Lyon to stage a comeback? Ioane puts in a chip, that is collected by his 9. He’s only stopped from scoring by a high tackle from Moody. Yellow card & penalty try. 28-14

Welcome, Danesclose! I’ll add RTÉ2 to the fixture list; must have missed it.

Deebee – It’d be lovely to see Ruan in Belfast again, but there is also the small problem of Ulster beating Montpellier, which seems unlikely.

  43. Might have spoken too soon there. Bulls slice through Lyon and le Roux scores in the corner.

  44. Lyon get one back from a penalty try and Moodie in the bin for a high tackle. Bulls strike back with a lovely break and offload by Kriel to put Willie le Roux over in the corner. 33-14 with 30 to go.

  48. Bulls with another! K-LA with a magical step and acceleration close to his line and through several sets of hands before Papier dives on under the posts. And Lyon reply from a chargedown from the kickoff! 40-19 with 23 to go. I’d imagine the Bulls will have too much in the last 20, especially at altitude.

Refit – yes, when I turned the match on and saw him, my immediate reaction was not to watch the match, but as it turns out, seeing him humiliated is better.

  50. Smith on for Goosen at 10. Bulls 5m lineout is snaffled by Lyon, who put it through the hands and behind the ingoal line! 5m scrum now. The Angry Warthog is held up short and the Bulls penalised for rolling. That would’ve put the game to bed.
