  2. Watching mainly the highlights here but the Lewis v Reyes game was a cracker. Good that Hopp and Kurz are having a good run, which means the darts are on the pub tvs and people are really interested.

  3. Wow Yos. Just found the Sports1 channel here broadcasting live matches on youtube.

The Sharrock v Suljovic game was a case study in body language. Mensur normally throws a tick slower than that, and he looked under twice as much pressure as Fallon did. She put on a masterclass of keep calm and carry on. Marvellous.

    Look! The Iks Monster!

Still, I like a challenge and if I really have to support Cardiff against the dear old Drags on Boxing Day then I’m sure I can just about manage it.

I still haven’t watched any of it, BB, I just haven’t had the time.

I might look to buy the whole series on DVD, I believe the version we get is about half the length of the full thang.

Cheers, BB, I posted my last comment before playing that vid he is spot on, and I immediately thought of this

Glen Campbell was really good, when he made big enough to have a weekly tv show he always had guys who were playing the bars back in Nashville on his show, guys like Waylon Jennings mentioned in that vid, Jennings has said this a few times about Campbell, he never forgot where he came from or those he played with.

Glen Campbell is just such a great musician and singer, yeah I get he isn’t as sexy now as Cash or Haggard etc, but he will always be one of my favourites.

I love this as a piece of singing, it’s fabulous

Strangely enough Ticht, I don’t recall Campbell being mentioned at all in any of the programmes. Mind you, that gives me an excuse to put up another song from Ghost On The Canvas…

Oh, I still can’t face that, BB.

He was the first gig I ever went to, and I’ve been a fan since age whatever…. him, Cash, Dolly, Patsy, and Hank II were the ones my mum had records of, so I heard them since I could walk and talk

She has big cojones. To put a player who has been around the top 10 for years under that kind of pressure was very impressive.

You’d think with all the hype and media faff she’s had this week that she might have been a bit drained last night, but she dictated the pace and – like you say – made Mensur play at her pace. He clearly wasn’t comfortable.

    Super tidy darts.

  19. I think it is a bit unspoken Yos, but looking at Mensur’s trials during the game there must be that underlying pressure of losing to… a WOMAN!

Also the crowd really needs to stop patronising Shannon by mercilessly booing her opponent. Mensur is hardly a twat on the dart circuit and he deserves respect while throwing, even if they cheer the rafters off when Shannon is on the Oche.

What’s great is that darts has the potential to be a sport free of gender constraints, and I hope this is real booster for that.

This. Inna nutshell. Never really struck me why there weren’t women in the big darts events (although don’t watch much at all) but now that there are, can’t see why there’d be a fuss. Same as pool and snooker, equestrian events, motorsport (?) bowls, ten pin, what else? Basically any sport where physical strength isn’t a direct determinant of competitiveness.

  24. Cheers guys. From a job search perspective it actually doesn’t look totally shite. So I’m hoping that after the Xmas week I’ll be able to get some interviews (I actually rejected one due to the commute) .

If I manage to hold my nerve I could make an informed decision about what to do with my life rather than lurching from one job to the next.

I’m going to get some fishing time in anyway.

Since posting that Isaac Hayes version of the jimmy Webb song, I’ve had a lyric in my head “By the time we got to (somewhere), it was getting late”. I couldn’t work out what it was. Googled “by the time we got to Memphis” then changed “Memphis” for “Houston”. So just popped out with the paper for recycling and a smoke and turned my thoughts to Justin Tipuric. Where’s he from? Trebanos. Who else is from Trebanos? Robert Jones. Who did Robert Jones play for? Swansea. Turns out I was misremembering “Ship of Fools” by John Cale.

“By the time we got to Swansea it was getting dark
Tumble, jungles, bugles and the prize
The tides turned west at Ammanford
As if they didn’t know what to do
But Garnant stood its ground and asked for more”

The crowd is pretty terrible. Basically pink cowboy hatz in Cardiff but for the darts. Suljiovic is one of the most likeable characters playing, so while I can understand a panto boo early on, to continue it is quite classless.

I do wonder what will happen when a female player beats someone like Adrian Lewis. How well would he or someone similar take it?

Managed to get into our local shopping centre and supermarket within the hour this morning. Already by 9.30 Sainsburys had all their tills open. Thankfully we didn’t have to get too much, as Mrs BB is always paranoid about making sure she has everything ready for Christmas. We go over to her sister’s on the day, so she doesn’t do a full dinner, just the veg for the main course, and dessert.
