The Welsh: What Are They Like?

Entertaining. Indefatigable. Bloody-minded, hard as nails (well, obviously there is an obstructed view).

When Mark Williams (pictured) won the World Snooker Championship in 2018, he stripped off for the ensuing press conference, as he had promised to do.

This year, he has promised to run naked down the M4 if he wins.

Given that he’s 51, perhaps he should borrow Andy Powell’s golf buggy instead.

But this is why Welsh rugby can and will rise above their current crisis, and hopefully with all four regions somehow surviving the mess. Welsh sides are currently Irish teams’ banana peels in the URC.

While full houses at Welsh stadia have been a rarity in recent years, Hen Wlad Fy Nhadau sung with full heart at the Millenium Stadium still manages to bring a bit of unexplained grit to the eyes of this non-Welsh person (well, full disclosure: I had a half-Welsh granny).

And, to add the icing to the cake, the Welsh don’t vote for Tories. Hopefully they won’t vote for the even more repulsive Reform in May either.

Goode and Dayglo have to answer for their Trumpesque lies about the French directors not allowing TMOs the images they want. See Planet rugby site and others. This has to stop. The TMO sees ALL the angles he requests. They are NOT shown in the stadium only so the crowd cannot influence the refs.
It leaves a sour taste, after a great game.

Agree about the Trumpesque lies, Flair.

But I do think they should play the replays in the stadium, and on-air, as refs often get vilified for decisions based on things the crowd/viewing audience didn’t notice in real time.

  3. Thaum – it just needs the ref to go “the TMO has checked and there’s nothing to review”. Probably the worst part of Nika’s reffing today was just the apparent ignoring of two possible head contact incidents against Bearbeary.

Thaum, watching on BeInTv, I think we got to see the same angles as the TMO, which is good as we can’t influence the refs and then we understand their decisions. Maybe they could show it as well in the stadia but after the decision has been reached? The main ref should at least explain controversial decisions to the live audience, as he’s miked.
But ” pros” like Dayglo or Goode can STFU. Pardon my French.

  5. You could show every angle, 1000 times, in high definition slo-mo with frame by frame explanations and you’d still get a vocal, one-eyes minority who will call foul. It’s the nature of the beast – just look at football with VAR.

Deebee, the problem is that this one eyed minority delivers the commentary, thus giving credibility to outright lies. See also Boris Johnson about Europe and its consequences.
Sorry to have brought BJ in your lives so early.

Hadn’t realised that Goode had vomited out rubbish to Squidge.

How can Andy Goode speak from a “I played the game, you didn’t, so STFU ” position?
As far as I know he was a crap back, so only Dupont and Aaron Smith should be allowed an opinion? I knew he was dumb, but that dumb?

Goode always seemed to be more concerned with his hair than on how he was playing.

To be fair to Andy Goode he wasn’t crap as he played for England and Leicester (and for that matter just playing anywhere near a professional level means you’re pretty bloody good). To also be fair to Andy Goode the man is a complete and utter pillock.

I have watched his podcast thing with Big Jim a few times since Biggar’s been on it. I quite like Jim if only for the memory of his ‘strange celebration’ of a last minute try at Murrayfield that cost Scotland the chance of a restart taking place and a shot at beating Wales. Goode’s sections of it are embarrassing though and are enough to make me ashamed of having watched it. The main takeaway for me though is that Hamilton’s mannerisms and way of speaking are almost identical to my Uncle Trevor from Coventry to the point I would believe they were related if I didn’t know Jim was half Scottish, a quarter Chinese and originally from Swindon before he ended up in Coventry. Must be something in the water in Cov. Well let’s face it whether it’s got anything to do with Big Jim’s similarities to Trev or not there’s definitely something in the water in Cov.

Apparently ‘they’ are saying that Jamie Ritchie’s had enough of France and is coming back to Scotland to play.

    For Glasgow!

While not a like-for-like replacement for Jack Dempsey, I reckon he’ll mainly be number 6 and Fagerson, M. will move to 8. Although Gregor Brown is also a good 6, but he might play more in the second row.

The Dragons’ semi-final seemed a bit low key, not all that surprising really I suppose. I only saw the last twenty minutes and that was quite entertaining though I gather the rest of the game hadn’t been great. Dragons had some good positions right at the end to maybe snatch it but couldn’t quite keep it together. Good achievement though to get there and give a good account of themselves in terms of being right in it at the death.

Caerdydd vs Llanymddyfri was quite entertaining in the Welsh league semi-final.
